I don't know for certain if President Obama has enemies in the Democratic Party, but if there is one, it's Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. She wants to push a more aggressive 'progressive' policy than the President does. The President has to be careful not to alienate the 48 percent who voted against him, especially since the elections since the November general election have gone 3 - 0 GOP. Pelosi doesn't have to.
On the other hand, the Republicans have to rebuild not only their national appeal, but stop the disgruntled conservative core from quitting or dropping out. Selecting Governor Palin as the vice-presidential candidate energized that core; getting rid of Senator McCain in 2010 would energize it even more. We can't afford to have "mavericks" with only 42 Senators. Obama knows this and this is why he's courting McCain so much. Thus, the Democrats can dodge filibusters.
As the losing party, with low representation, you have to pick your fights. The Republicans are drawing the line over the Treasury, voting against Geithner and now opposing the recovery package. This is the right move.
However, losing the election didn't extinguish our First Amendment rights, so we are able to attack the President when he does something stupid. If there's one thing President Obama doesn't like, it's attacks on his dignity. Rush Limbaugh is so doing. Go for it, Rush!
Let me clarify one thing. I am not President Obama's enemy. I am his opponent. I want the United States to be strong, rich, and prosperous, and I don't see how his policies are going to do it.
