For some, it will be the culmination of a long-desired dream. For some, it will be the beginning of a long national nightmare. And for most of us, it's going to be the beginning of four years of disappointment.
Right now, everyone but "a few disgruntled conservatives" is partying. As a Red in a Blue state, expressing my opinion in public leads to quiet sushing, or even a not-so-quiet demand I shut up. I'm the skunk in the garden party.
Well, that's fine by me. The obsession with Obama by many of our artists, writers, sports figures, and average people disgusts me. He's a man, not God. The adoration he's received violates the First Commandment.
Obama is going to be a disappointment to most people because he doesn't want to do anything that will cause him to look bad.
President Obama doesn't take sides quickly. I say he doesn't take sides quickly enough. He calculates what position he should take to avoid conflict. No wonder he voted "Present" so many times in the Illinois legislature. It did get him out of trouble, but in this world, where too many people have already made up their minds, he's going to get into worse trouble.
I don't want to be in union with anyone. I don't want to pull together. I don't want to subsume my wishes to a common good. I want to be left alone, and he isn't going to let me be left alone. So, here's to four years of opposition.
